This list is a bit old and some software listed I don't even use anymore. I do plan to update this and actually switch it over into a SQL database.

    • Label maker for Neato products. Not that great but sicne I use Neato cd labels and it's free, what the hell. Doesn't support gifs or transparent images. You can modify the HUGE splash screen to virtually eliminate it (a.k.a. make it 1 pixel).

    • MS GIF Animator. Strings images (from file or clipboard) into a animation. It looks like MS pulled it from their site.

  17. PhotoModeler Lite
    • Create 3D Objects with pictures of objects at different angles. Even uses the pictures as textures on the object. Lite Version, Full Always more complex objects (more points).

  18. POV-Ray
    • 3D Renderer. Script based. Creates RENDERED images (An exact sphere, not a bunch of triangles to form a sphere... for example).

  19. QuickTime
    • Quick Time Movie Player. I only used it because nothing else will play this files. It likes to take over broswer's built in players (which I think are better) so disable most of them (but .mov) in it's control panel applet. It bugs you almost everytime you play with it to upgrade to a paid version. Need to Register before downloading.

  20. RAD Video Tools
    • Plays and converts Bink and smacker files (usually in games).

  21. RealPlayer
    • Plays RealVideo and RealAudio files. I would turn off all the extra "content" stuff and the tray icon program. Atleast it doesn't bug you like QuickTime to update to their paid version. Need to Register before downloading.

  22. RealProducer Basic

  23. Thing Viewer
    • Lets you view "Things" in your broswer. I don't see many of these outside of the Thing World Site. It's kinda like small flash movies but not as popular.

  24. Winamp
    • Most Popular and best MP3 player. Has such cpu wasting fun as visualizations skins, DSP Effects. Built in Equalizer. Also Plays Shoutcast streams. Thanks to Netscape it is now freeware.

  1. Analyzer
    • Protocol analyzer. You don't need to know.

  2. AOL Instant Messenger
    • AIM. I don't use it much just for friends that don't have anything else. I prefer ICQ. Has Ads. Need to register on their network.

  3. Apache
    • HTTP (web) Server. Configured via text files, not your point and click type of program. Can run as a Service. Most popular webserver on the net. Console Based.

  4. Bali Dynamic DNS
    • Program auto updates services like DynDns with your current IP. Allows five different accounts with 32 hosts each. With a program like Bali Service you can make the program run as a service but it doesn't work that great when I tried it. It auto checks for updates.

  5. Beonex Communicator
    • Basiclly Netscape 6.0 without Netscape/AOL's Addins and with some improvements.

  6. Cortona VRML Client
    • VRML Viewer for Netscape. Looks like the one that came with Netscape no longer exists.

  7. CuteMX
    • Simuluar to Napster but not just MP3's. You are required to share your files if you want to get any files. Need to register on on their network.

  8. HTTrack
    • Website downloader (Offline Browser). Carefull with it's settings or you might download the whole web.

  9. HyperTerminal Private Edition
    • Update to the HyperTerminal that comes with Windows. Has telnet support.

    • The Orginal Instant Messager. Does messages (text and voice), chats, birthday reminders, ...etc. AOL got their hands on it so now it has some ads but it's mostly intact. Need to register on their network.

    • This Program attempts to see what programs are using which tcp/ip ports. It doesn't work all that great but it might help.

    • Great FTP Client. Supports http and ftp downloads. Supports up to 16 threads at once. Has ftp search and url catcher from the clipboard. I wrote Txt2Clipboard with this program in mind. Does have a few translation problems on some errors. Unfortually this is going to be the last freeware version.

    • Plays Shockwave and the popular flash movies in your broswer. Now to just find a freeware creator.

    • The Best and most popular IRC Client. Scripting support included.

  16. MSN Messenger Service
    • Increasingly popular Instant Messager program. Can check for Hotmail email. Has ads. You need to register for their network (Hotmail).

    • Most popular freeware (now fully) SQL-based database engine. Can run as a service. Console Based.

    • THE MP3 search and download program. You need to register on their network.

    • TCP/IP data program. TCP and UDP supported. Can act as a server or a client. Like telnet but with less restrictions. Console Based.

    • Teleconference program. Video, audio, whiteboard and text chat. Several people can join a convertion but only 2 at a time can voice/video chat at a time. Also has "remote desktop" support although I never used it, I use VNC instead. ILS servers act as phone books but your not required to connect to one.

    • Security Scanner. Console based.

    • Port Monitor (nuke attack detection, not prevention). Support for notifing IRC Client. Great at it's time. Mostly replaced with current day firewalls.

    • Great incode server-parsed scripting language. Built in support for SQL databases like mySQL. Simular to ASP in that it's writing into the html code itself. Console Based.

    • A php (hence web) based mySQL adminatration tool. Add, edit, delete..etc SQL data. Doesn't support NULL values. Doesn't do user admin.

    • I've only used it once but seemed to work fine, I don't play online games much anymore. Supports several games.

  27. pjWebCam
    • Webcam Program. Supports on the fly image inhancements and superimposed images. It can store images on a local drive, upload to ftp, or run an http server itself. Doesn't support image logging.

  28. RealServer Basic
    • Server that allows RealPlayer streaming. Allows 25 connects at once with this version. Web based adminitration. Free for one year. Requires a licence key via email.

  29. Roger Wilco
    • Voice chat program with gaming in mind. Has full duplex and multi-user at once chat support. Great for online games when the whole team joins in. One person creates a chat server and the rest connect to it.

  30. Sam Spade
    • Networking tools that can ping, lookup, whois, traceroute, finger, ..etc. It can also analyse email headers. I don't use this tool that much. I tend to use built in console programs for most and NetLab.

  31. SendTo FTP
    • Allows you to update files directly from explorer using the SendTo context menu. Has limited file Copasity (due to limitions of windows with his method). Can do ASCII or binary uploads based on extention.

  32. Sygate Personal Firewall
    • On competion with other free firewalls like Zone Alarm. Has High-Low sliders and some more complex options but not rule based like Tiny Firewall or as program based as Zone Alarm.

  33. SyGate
    • Great NAT based Internet sharing program. Allows several computers on a network to connect to the internet through one connection, sharing one IP. Has a apprule.cfg file for configuring incoming connections. Has great gaming support. Built in support for IRC DCC (requires connecting on ports 6667 or 7000 or modifying apprule). My needs have reduced and I now am using win2k's built in ICS for my needs now that my 3.11 registration has expired and 3.11 has bad win2k support (fixed in 4.0 but requires a new payment). Licenced based on ammount of computer allowed to connect as once.

    • Basicly a GUI for the Netstat console program.

  35. Tera Term
    • Telnet Client. Color support. Supports addins such as TTSSH for SSH 1.5 support.

  36. TimeRC
    • Synchronizes your computer clock with any of the SNTP Time servers on the net. Also shows info on phases of the moon and meteor showers.

  37. Tiny Personal Firewall
    • My Current Firewall. Rule Based but with applications in mine. Can't get it to display connects on ports not used by a program even on the highest setting unlike zone alarm. Has MD5 support so people can't just rename/replace programs to bypass it but it caused problems when I used it.

    • Remote Control other pcs on a network or over the internet. Allows cross platform control. Has built in http server for java connections in your broswer. Can be quite slow even on a 10mbit lan.

    • Great, although complex, ftp server. Can run as a service. Allows for remote administation. Version 1.7 Beta or later suggested.

    • First Free Firewall. Application Based. You can control programs running, or have run in the past but not much control outside that. No rule support.

    • PDF Reader, nothing big.

    • Freeware competition for MS Office. I haven't used this much at all (I have MS Office) but I might in the future. Turn off Intergration, it's own Start button taskbar stinks. Need to register to download.

    • Lets you schedule Win2k's built in defrag program, who says it doesn't support that?

  2. AXE Hex Editor
    • Nice Hex Editor. Has find support via ASCII, UNICODE, Byte...etc and a bunch of other features I don't understand. Nagware until you register. Registering is free.

    • Allows any program, like Bali DynDns, as an NT/2k Service. You might need to put the password the service's user in plain text so make sure your NTFS settings protect it. Console based.

    • NT Defragmentor. I believe this is the only free one. I don't use NT anymore but when I did I used this quite a bit. Win2k has a built in defragmentor based on it.

    • An EXCELLENT Program. Monitors all file access by any program. Has filtering support.

    • Great Floppy Imaging program, full switch support. Alerts you when floppies are done and can create images, compressed images, and self extracting. Unfortually it is no longer free but THIS is the latest freeware version.

    • Displays all handles that a program opened. Great for finding what is locking out a file from change or deleteing. Just like Handle but with a GUI.

    • Adds a "More Properties" to the context menu to allow you to modify the same data that plain properties just shows you.

    • A collection of tools like pskill, pslist, psshutdown, psuptime to view and control your nt/2k computer even from another computer.

    • An EXCELENT Program. Monitors all registry usage by programs. Filtering also included.

    • If you wanted to know what cpu your using, it's speed, bus and close speed and several other settings check this out. Does seem to have some problems reporting true AGP speed (ASUS V7700 seem to show 2x when it's really 4x)

    • Allows you to view and delete cookie data. Mostly geared to IE users. Does support netscape but requires that you search the whole hd to find them.
